Banded Kingfisher

I had a very brief encounter with this Banded Kingfisher during my trip to Panti Forest and I had a photograph of him from his right cheek that was completely blocked by a tree trunk. This time around, there were three (3) tiny twigs that stood between us, sigh!

Anyhow, this photograph is much better than the previous one because she was in the midst of feeding on insect.

The is a female because of the brown upper parts. A very small Kingfisher compared to most of its relatives. Beautiful black and blue bands.

This was taken from Awana, Genting.

woooooh!
that is an incredible photo. and such a freaky bird. it looks like someone took a "normal" kingfisher, pondered for a while, and then painted it the bizarrest combination of colours and designs they could possibly come up with.

Nice catch you've got. I like the eyes, real but looks so artificial! Congrats

Male has blue barred upperpart while female has rufous and black bars on head and upperside. I have the female picture in my gallery. But still no luck on male.
