I had a little fright when I was birding at the Old Pump House recently; this "no more than" 7 inches skinny/tiny snake lunges toward me as I was trying to cross over him. Phew, lucky me because I was watching my steps ...
His head is so tiny that it is barely larger than the stone that is in front of him. Anyone could have crushed him with a wrong step forward or bitten by him when you are busy checking on perched birds.
I did not bother to ID him, sorry.
